Dwight Watt - Watt Thoughts #318 1/13/2016

#318 - Clarks Hill/Thurmond Dam (Watt Thoughts)

January 1, 2016 I went to Clarks Hill/Thurmond Dam to see all the flood gates open on the dam for the first time since 1998 (last major El Nino) and about 6th time since dam was built in 1950. Normally water just flows thru turbines below the dam and is used to produce electricity. This day you were sprayed like when I have been to Niagara Falls.

In 1998 I got there a day or two late and some gates were closed. There is a picture on the pictures page of my website.

This time I got the experience of seeing all the water which was flooding the Savannah river below the dam. Above the dam the lake was about three feet above full stage and water was in beach and picnic areas.

There was a bunch of people who went to see this and park rangers were directing traffic on the South Carolina side. I went to Georgia side first and then to South Carolina side. The road goes over the dam.

This is a little article I am doing across the Internet of my personal opinions. This reflects my personal thoughts. I try to write several times a month on a variety of subjects. It may be religious at times, political at times, and at other times just my reactions on something happening out there. It will often be like an op-ed article. If I do what I intend, you will at times want to shout I agree, other times you will want to say Dwight has really lost it now, but most importantly I want to challenge you to think. Feel free to forward this to others. If you don't want to get this e-mail let me know. Feel free to use what you read from me, but I request you give me credit and send a tear sheet if published in a newspaper or magazine. Thanks.
