Dwight Watt - Watt Thoughts #215 5/27/2010
#215 - My reply to "Are you ready for the big internet crunch?" at CNN
My comments I posted
First off the article is talking about the Internet and not just any internet. The I needs capitalized.
Secondly this is only an issue with public addresses and is not with private addresses which is how we have survived since this issue first appeared way back in 1996 when dire predictions were made. Most people are using private addresses a where one public is used by a number of devices. If your IP address is 192.168.x.x or 172.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x where x could be a number between 1 and 254 you have a private address.
Third a large number of people are using IPv6 now with IPv4 and do not know it. If you are on Vista or 7 you are set on both versions.
Last the US Federal government certified last summer all their routing equipment is using IPv6 and also IPv4
I am a MCSE, net+, and have taught and done networking 20+ years.

This is a little article I am doing across the Internet of my personal opinions. This reflects my personal thoughts. I try to write several times a month on a variety of subjects. It may be religious at times, political at times, and at other times just my reactions on something happening out there. It will often be like an op-ed article. If I do what I intend, you will at times want to shout I agree, other times you will want to say Dwight has really lost it now, but most importantly I want to challenge you to think. Feel free to forward this to others. If you don't want to get this e-mail let me know. Feel free to use what you read from me, but I request you give me credit and send a tear sheet if published in a newspaper or magazine. Thanks.
